Crixivan (Indinavir) is a prescription medication known as an HIV protease inhibitor. It is used for the combination treatment of HIV infection. It is not considered safe in pregnancy or nursing. The usual dose is 800mg every 8 hours. Its use is not recommended in infants. It has multiple drug interactions. It has been associated with nephrolithiasis, hemolytic anemia, hyperbilirubinemia, possible hepatitis, and interstitial nephritis with asymptomatic pyuria. It inhibits cytochrome P450, has multiple drug intereactions, and requires dose adjustment depending on the drugs with which it is used in combination. It should not be used (contraindicated) in combination with cisapride, triazolam, midazolam, pimozide, and ergots.
